#1 New clutch issue, Series II

Post by hpage66 » Sun Apr 05, 2026 8:57 pm

As you may or may not recall, several years ago my Series II had a clutch issue where the throw-out bearing would not release completely..

Result.. remove engine and transmission, new clutch disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing.

About a year later, the pressure plate began intermittently making this horrendous clanking noise..

Result.. remove engine and transmission, new clutch disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing.

Now, about two years later, the release bearing is intermittently making a clicking noise, but only when the clutch is engaging, not fully released, not fully engaged. Take a listen..

Any ideas? I'm thinking some type of fastener holding the release bearing to the fork is flopping around and hitting the pressure plate?

Thanks!

Regards,

Howard

Obviously you’ve tried looking in the inspection hole with the car running and someone applying pressure on/off the clutch?
Whatever the issue is you’re probably going to be doing it again! Grrrrr!!
For what it’s worth, I had a throw out bearing well documented on hear completely disintegrate after 10 mins on a rolling road, all brand new.
I wasn’t going to let that happen again, so I used a Rob Beere roller bearing and removed the small friction plate on the clutch fingers.
I can confirm after 3500 miles it is absolutely superb. Zero judder smooth as butter.
However..
Now instead of using the old clutch fork there is a new product (not available when I did mine) which instead. Of sweeping across the fingers of the clutch which the old fork system does, this new product actually hits it directly central, a superb upgrade.
Available from rob Beere with all instructions videos on his web page etc.
I would def be looking at that upgrade, that’s a crap job you don’t need ..

Best of luck 👍
