I know this is not E-type but someone may well be able to advise.
I'm helping a friend who's 1977 MG midget has been having starting problems, identified as being a duff motor.
We have taken it off and I've stripped, cleaned and re-assembled and it still don't work. Nothing inside looked amiss so looking for a replacement motor. This brings my question.
All the ones I found specify it has 9 teeth. I checked the one taken off and it definitely has 10 teeth. There's no undue damage on the teeth.
Will a 9 tooth starter work or give us problems?
Any advice appreciated before we buy.

#2 Re: MG Midget Starter Motor
Some use 9 and some use 10 depending on the ring gear...you should use the correct one....this is not E type so will put it in the pub chat section
