#1 Wing Mirror repair

Post by tonyabacus » Mon Jul 13, 2026 9:42 am

The right hand mirror on my car has started to get some play between the arm and the base causing the glass to vibrate up and down. Does anyone know how to get the two parts seperated to effect a repair. I looks like the spring may have gone a bit weak, but not sure how to remove it

Tony.

A photo would be helpful but if the glass has a plastic edging strip around it where it fits in the case you should be able to push the glass in a bit and remove the strip and then remove the glass. This gives you access to the fixing between case and arm.

It does depend on the design and we don’t know what type you have.

Understood Mike I will try and get a picture.

The mirror is the later type fitted to S2 and S3 with the long swan neck stalk and the problem is where the base meets the long arm that carries the mirror head. At that point the mirror can vibrate distorting the rear vision. Under the base there is a large spring, held in place with a large diameter washer and a central lug. I would like to know how I can remove the washer and spring to replace them.

The spring is held in place by a shaped washer....washer has a slot fitted to a T bar shaft..hold the T bar with grips and twist 90deg... washer and spring now pulls off....Steve https://ebay.io/m/8YBi2L
