I've just set about renewing the rear window seal on the factory hardtop I was fortunate to acquire at the end of last year. Having been pleasantly surprised by the relative ease of replacing the rubber seal and locking strip around the Perspex screen, my pleasure has now been tempered by the experience of re-installing the 2 piece rear window chrome surrounds.

I would suggest that it is pretty much impossible to get this installed without the application of some adhesive, also to ensure it doesn't subsequently detach at speed. In fact there is old glue residue around the complete underside of the original trim pieces that I have, so this seems to be the way.

Has anyone undertaken this task and have any suggestions for a good adhesive to try? I would guess from the design of the chrome and rubbers, that originally there would have been no adhesive used, but I can't confirm that as I believe my hardtop has undergone some work in the past.

The only way to get these to stay in place is to stick them in. I used black sikaflex adhesive sealant. You will have to use clamps to hold it in place on the corners. It's a bit messy but you can clean up after its in place.

I have used Sikaflex 221 in the past. I think that's the way to go, thanks.
