Door Hinge

Morning Everyone,
I have an early 1962 FHC. Unfortunately yesterday the door check strap snapped and the door went too far and damaged the body work on the near side. So, two questions - can the check strap be replaced just by removing the door cards to get to the two fixings, or does the whole hinge need to come off the A pillar? Secondly, if the door and hinge is removed would it be possible for one of these paintless dent repairers to get to the back of the panel with one of their various tools to try and stretch out the crease. Paint work has not been broken. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris,
I had a door check strap break in France at the start of a long trip. Very frustrating and a need to be very careful on opening the door. Looking this morning, I can clearly see the two strap fixings to the door behind the front part of the door card. I certainly don’t remember having to touch the hinges, so it should be an easy fix.
As for the dent, it’s hard to comment without seeing the area, but my checked door would land unchecked on the front wing right on the internal bulkhead mounting the door hinge. Normally dent guys push a dent outwards from inside, so I would imaging getting any access in that area would be extremely difficult.

When renewing some trim on my car I removed the piece that fits in the footwell side ( taking out the bonnet release pulls) to my surprise I found the end of a door check strap lying in a hole . This vacant space is often used to house speakers.

So yes , it may be possible to push out the dent ?
