#1 9.5 Clutch - which is the best?

Post by 00series » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:58 pm

I'm just in the process of buying a 9.5 complete inch clutch for my series 2, the supplier has said that a Helix clutch at just under ?100 will be fine & work just as well as a clutch costing ?200.
As this is one area where penny pinching just doesn't make sense & as i will drive the car pretty hard could someone recommend a long lasting performance clutch that doesn't require Lance Armstrongs legs to activate.
Or will the Helix work fine? To be honest i really don't know anything about the different types of available clutches so any guidance would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Bert

I have never heard of Helix , and I would be very wary of cheap clutches on an E because changing it is a very time consuming and/or expensive business . The usual clutches are Borg & Beck / Laycock / Automotive Products but the problem has been that half of these component suppliers are going out of business

Edit : I just looked up Helix who seem to offer bespoke handmade clutches , for both road and track use , said to be fully balanced etc

Both Borg & Beck and AP also still seem to be available

I think E Type Fabs will sell you a complete B&B kit for about ?140. Look at their web site for up to date prices. As Chris says, don't scrimp here (and I no nothng about Helix so they could be the best!).
