#1 Reconnecting after a re-wire

Post by chrisvine » Sun Jul 14, 2013 8:09 pm

Apologies if this is a daft question. I?ve re-wired my rebuild with new looms and was interested in whether there?s a best practice for powering up. I was aiming (with luck!) to avoid the big bang approach and so would like to initially just start the engine as I?m fairly close to reinstalling the transmission but haven't fitted horn, lights etc. My understanding of the wiring diagrams is that the engine should still start with all the dash fuses removed, as the Brown and White wires will have power with the ignition on. I should then be able to test the individual components as each fuse is fitted. Is that correct? The only issue would be not having the cooling fans working for the initial engine start up but I doubt it would be running for long enough to be an issue.

Thanks,
Chris

On the rewires I have done, I have tested each circuit with a low power battery charger . The purists criticise this, saying that it is mixed DC and AC, but it has never caused a problem, and with it cutting out at say 4 amps, even if you have a dead short you will do no harm and can rectify matters before the unlimited current of a battery is connected . You certainly can start the engine as you suggest but it is better to have wired and tested the ancillaries before you do so
