Hi there,
I need a decent advise from the experts.
I would like to replace the wiring loom on my 3.8 FHC 887313 quite soon on my own and I have learned that the loom should be without the fan relais wires. However the distributer offered me an instantly available loom with fan relais for a unbeatable price. The other one would maybe available in the next
So my conclusion was to go for this loom and to install an additional fan relais on my FHC.
My questions: 1.) Would this work? 2.) Are there any disadvantages expected for this solution (which is the solution used on early cars)?.
Thank you very very much for your advise and support!
Stefan
Technical advise required - replacing wiring loom - E 3.8

Hi Stefan,
I assume the relay you refer to is the relay for the cooling fan? That being the case, if your car is a 3.8, it should have the relay. Jaguar removed the relay from, I think, 1964 (late) and most people retro fit them as it is not a good idea to switch the fan directly from the otter (best switching low current to a relay).

Hi Angus,
Thank you very much for your reply!
Yes you are right I was talking about the cooling fan relais. Sorry for being unprecise.
What I have learned is that the relais should have been aborted somewhen within the 3.8 production (according to the retailer listing my 63 FHC should originally have not anymore the relais and also currently does not feature it - the car is believed to be quite original with only 55k miles on the clock).
But my idea goes into your direction, intending to order the loom with an additional relais and installing the relais additionally.
I will not face any other shortcomings with this solution, will I?
Thanks again!
Best regards
Stefan

Stefan, not as far as I am aware. I would also replace the fuseholders behind the fold down dash if I were you. They are cheap to buy (mini ones are the same) and remove the issue of dirty connections.
