I have just noticed that two of my stromberg carbs on my S3 are leaking fuel from the plug at the bottom of the carb. Can I change these plugs easily or do I have to dismantle the whole carb and rebuild. if a rebuild is necessary how long does it take for a good mechanic to do a rebuild would I be better to fit an Su carb conversion instead.

It will be the o ring - carefully remove the entire brass fitting from the bottom of the carby (if there is an adjuster do not move it) and replace the o ring - should stop the leak.

This is probably daft questions but will I need to remove the carbs. Do i have to take out the piston/jets first or can I just remove the brass plug with the carb in situ and pull out the plug containing the O ring?

It has been over 20 years since I did the jag so I cannot remember exactly - did the rover v8 (same carbs) last year.
I have the relevant section out of the handbook on PDF but have no idea how to load on this site.
From what I remember the carbies do not need removing and all you need to do is screw the flat brass fitting out at the bottom of the carbs - nothing else. When out replace the O ring and screw back in.
Hopefully someone else will come in with updated info.
