#1 Is MK10 block identical to E-Type block ?

I need to source a 3.8 block and wondered whether a MK10 3.8 block is the same as the EType 3.8 block. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

My advice Mr/Mrs/Ms Anon would be to say hi and introduce yourself and your car and country etc., so we know who's talking. However, in a spirit of helpfulness while you think about that, the answer to your question is yes.

Blimey, what a welcome. Apologies for missing a few niceties, certainly no offence intended. Thanks Pete for the info, much appreciated. Perhaps a slightly less sarcy/pompous retort might have been more appropriate for my first offence !

Welcome to the E Type forum. You have to be a bit thick skinned on occasions. However the advice is second to none.

What's up? I'm sure you didn't intend any offence X. Neither did I.

At least I was moderately polite, constructive, and you know who to complain to. A welcome is due and I should have said so, but I don't even know what gender I'm welcoming, although I assume you are male? I assume you own a 1963 E-type now that I look at it, but I can't be doing with anonymous people and guessing games, sorry. Not my bag. My plea obviously fell on deaf ears too.

To be truthful X, you caught me at a bad time, as I was recently discussing forum politeness with someone, and how people show up, want an answer without so much as a hello and then complain if they don't get one PDQ. The other person said they simply refuse to reply to listers who are like that. Their words crossed my mind when you posted, and maybe I should have ignored you and spared your feelings.

Trouble is, that wouldn't have helped you and you wouldn't have had any cause to consider perhaps how it can come across when you just show up somewhere new, bash out a question on your keyboard and leave it out there expecting a reply without so much as a by your leave....

I'm sure lots of people here don't give a monkey's and think I'm being old-fashioned and should shut up. I probably should apologise to them too, as I'm fairly new here.

But since none of them have answered your question, which do you prefer X? A crusty old fart who gives you the information you're after, gift-wrapped with a hint about politeness (even though you still aren't giving me a name), or someone who thinks everything is cool but does bugger all to give you your info?

But you're right, I can't ask for politeness and not be polite myself. So I'll politely tell you we're as bad as each other. I just wonder if people would walk into a physical room and say the same things as they write sometimes? Welcome by the way... :oops:

Yes the Mk10 block is visually the same as the 3.8 block - i.e smooth sided and apart from the date being cast into the block (which is hidden by the exhaust manifold) no-one would ever know it wasnt the original E engine without checking the serial number stamped into it (which on first sight you cant see either

I *think* I too have a Mk10 block in my series 1 but please dont be tempted to sell the original block - its always nice to have all the numbers correct with the car. Original etype blocks do have a resale value but I keep mine safe along with all the other original bits I replaced over the years - just in case I am forced to sell the car one day (perish the thought after 27 years of ownership)
