#1 Hood fitting

Post by chrisvine » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:16 pm

What are people's views on fitting the hood yourself - can a good fit be achieved with a bit of patience or is this one of those jobs best left to a professional?

After a considerable wait, my painted bodyshell is due to be returned in the next month or so, with the screen fitted. One option would be to get Hutsons to also fit the hood before it is returned but would also like to know if this is a job best left to the end of the rebuild.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris the hood is normally the last thing I fit. The frame gets in the way.

It is really important to get the hood frame adjusted properly before getting the canvas fitted. I would get the canvas done professionally - it makes or breaks the car in my view.

I agree with Angus. I did all the trimming of my car myself apart from the seats, and I tried to fit the hood myself - but I just couldn't get it quite right, and in the end I gave up and got professional help which I am glad I did.
