Engine / cylinder numbers (cast)

Need some help on cast numbers on the XK block in general, I know the engine numbers etc but what are the cast numbers on the block I.e S2 etc

Also there is a number on the cylinder head (bulkhead end) see the photos on this link I.e D877

Don't know what the number means but I notice your engine 11 after mine.

This isn't my car, this is in Florida and nearly did buy but wasn't keen on buying from photos!!
