it certainly looks like a good idea and i can understand the reasoning behind it, however is it really that much of a benefit?

I would be concerned over the seal compared to the standard sump plug and copper washer. Also, only takes 5 mins to jack car and take plug out / drain oil etc.

As previously stated, personally i wouldnt fit it, im a bit OCD and i'd always be thinking about how tight the seal was, especially once the engine is pressurised / up to temperature.

I hope your sump contents aren't too pressurised, otherwise you'll have some breather work and leak fixing to do before your sump plug pops out...

If the fitting were available above standard size, it might be an option for someone with a stripped plug?

Good point Peter, not sure why i mentioned pressurisation, because as you stated , if that was occuring then there would be an issue. interestingly the site states that 6 manufacturers (japanese) have all now classified this product as OEM on their high perf cars.

As the time came for servicing the car before going to the Swiss British Car Meeting in Morges (Switzerland) October 1rst I took the opportunity to fit the Quick Valve plug.

I noticed that the sump drain plug has been re-tapped to NPT 3/8-18 so I referred to chart on the Quick Valve UK site (http://www.quickvalve.co.uk/size_charts_cars.htm) to find the right plug reference instead of choosing by car make and model (E-Type S1 is normally M14-1.5 thread).

I asked for a confirmation to Richard Griffiths, technical director at Quick Valve UK, who gave me very good help and advices. I chose the drain valve with a nipple for use with a hose to drain the oil directly in used oil can ready for disposal.

I?m very happy with the result. I change the oil very often so it makes it easier and cleaner and the drain valve would prevent any further damage to the threads on my sump.
