#1 3.8 Dynamo Mounting bracket?

Post by Dawnpatrol » Wed Feb 08, 2012 2:43 pm

Hi Gents,

I wonder if anybody has a close up photo they could load up that shows the above bracket, preferably on the block. I've scanned through XKE data without much luck. Or anybody in the Preston area with a car I could look at?

I'm just trying to sort the intallation of a C42 (later type) and as the one I have is from a collection of parts my Dad (sadly no longer around to ask  ) had I'm not sure it is correct as it looks like it needs a spacer on one face to put the unit in the correct place in relation to the other pullies.
Also, to get the belt on, the casing fouls the centre mounting stud on the block, I should say there is no tensioner on this set up.
I've no problem turning up a boss/spacer and brazing it in the appropriate place as necessary, just would like to make sure I'm up the right tree to start with.

Thanks in anticipation.
Regards,

Mike,

From the way you explain how your Father had the dynamo with the spacer off the top of the block sounds right to me. I will have some photos somewhere of the bracket but have never worked out why it is so hard to post photos on here so I would have to send it to your private email address.

I can't take a photo of my set up now because I have been through no end of dynamos and regulators they are nothing but trouble, I am running the mega expensive but excellent +earth alternator.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I'll send you a pm with my e-mail thanks.

The spacer I'm on about would be used to position the dynamo fore/aft about its pivot axis.

I think some may have a spacer on the stud coming out of the timing cover for the adjustable arm or some are just bent.

If you are passing the Wirral I have a 62 OTS with a dynamo. fitted. If I can get out into the garage I will take a photo.

Thanks for the offer Tony,
We do come down to the Wirral occasionally as my Mum was from Birkenhead, but no plans on the radar at the moment. A picture would be good but without the dyno fitted if poss. Sounds like your car is complete?
