OK.

So how do I best break into my Series 1.5 FHC?

Assuming you do not have a heated rear window, the least damaging thing to do is to remove the tailgate glass . This is fairly easy - take off the chrome strips , remove the filler strip ( a pointed tool is useful to get this started and then it can simply be pulled out ), lubricate the glass/rubber joint with detergent solution , and then with two large suction cups start to ease the glass out of the rubber. Once a little of its edge is exposed a wooden spatula should ease the rest out

Alternatively, do you know the key numbers ? If so you should be able to get a spare cut, although I appreciate the information may not be so readily available in Australia

Call any rescue service. They have small blow-up bags they slip between upper window frame and body and then inflate enough to pass a stiff wire down and undo the lock. It can be tricky on some moderns with the simple plungers on top of the door casing. but your old-tech car is a doddle to just pull the door handle to open it from inside.
