#1 How to protect master cylinders after refurbishment

Hi,
I am restauring a Serie 1 1963 and have refurbished and polished the master sylinders and the pedal box. I see that some are plating these items. Is that the preferred way or can I wax them or lack them instead to keep them good looking?
