Bump Stop Removal

Hi, could someone explain what i need to do to remove the rear bump stops when fitting larger tyres please?
Is it a case of just removing the rubber bump stops or do i also need to grind of the metal part that the bump stop bolts to?

You must also fit bump stops to the shocks to replace the chassis mounted ones otherwise you could cause damage to the suspension. They are like rubber bungs with a split in them and slip relatively easily into place.

I have Gaz adjustable shocks & they already have bump stops fitted to the damper rods.
I'll see how much clearance i have between the tyre & bump stop mount - if its too close & i need to cut away the metal bump stop mounts i'll get the grinder out.

I have seen cars with the bump stops cut in half (vertically) to clear the wheels but still retaining 50% of the rubber. Depends on the offset of the wheels you are using. Worth checking your wheels are the correct offset by the way because the offset for the S3 cars (fitted with 6" wheels) is different from the S1/2's. A member here found that out with 6" Borrani's which were specified for the E-Type but the small print said 'S3' and they caused clearance problems. In the case of Borrani only their 5" and 5.5" wheels have the correct offset for the early cars.
