#1 Where does my dash pot oil go ?

Post by tim wood » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:49 pm

Hello all, something has bothered me for years. On all my cars with SU carbs the dash pot oil vanishes within a few short runs. I usually top up with 20/50 but it never lasts. I top up to the base of the threads for the damper.

It can't leak out so it must be consumed somewhere.

All comments welcomed.
Tim

This is just like people who overfill their header tanks and think the car is overheating because it 'loses' coolant.

The excess is being dumped. Stop overfilling and it will stop disposing of the excess. What is left is where you should leave it. The fact all your SU cars have this apparent 'fault' points to the common denominator bei g operator error, as you will appreciate....
