I need to send my rev counter away - it only works if u push hard on the glass! I've been recommended David Manners in Brom or found JDO Instruments online.

1) I've been told if I take the counter out it won't start the car, is this true?
2) Does anyone have or used someone that may turn around in a couple of weeks?

Dave Manners is 6 weeks if Rev counter does need to stay in is there a way of fooling it or bypassing so I can use the vehicle without the rev counter?

It's probably just a poor earth connection inside the unit's casing where the earth is taken back to the car chasis by the same bolts which hold it together.

Philip Lochner of the JL list had a similar problem and solved it in a similar way.

Apart from wires going to connector block there is nothing else connected to case. Should there be a separate earth?

I think it unlikely that manners do the job themselves, so all they are likely to do is to send it out somewhere else which is why it takes so long. JDO has been writeen up on this board satisfactorily. The king of instrument people these days are probably Speedograph Richfield in Nottingham from whom I have had good service - even to the extent that having been given a quote for repairs to 2 speedos, back they came with a cheque because the repair was cheaper than the quote !

You should be able to use the car without the tacho. On these RVI tachos , the instrument itself is energised by a green wire from ( usually ) fuse 7 , but the pulses are generated by the white wire which wraps through a post on the back of the instrument. This white wire feeds the low tension ignition circuit , and thus provided you make sure that it stays "in circuit" once the instrument is removed , the car should start. I cannot remember whether I had to bridge any connector to achieve this but once you take the tacho out you will see what you need to do.However , the probable cause of your symptoms is either a loose earth wire as marek suggests, or possibly the green wire is not properly connected

Need to find a meter then or twiddle the wires.....

Malk : I have just realised that yours is a V12, whereas what I wrote was for an S2 type tacho. I do not know whether the Opus system uses the same tacho type

OK. I've just tightened up the rear nuts whilst washing my day car so go try in a moment when I take for a spin!! It says Negative earth on taco that's all I know........ I think its internal to be honest.
