#1 Change engine to 3.8 ltr

Post by Springer » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:13 pm

My 1963 serie 1 car has a 4.2 ltr engine and I have wondered what to do with it. Now I have learned that it most likely has 3.8 ltr top and carburators. Since that car has been run in Arizona it may be that they have overheated and damaged the 3.8 ltr block and changed just that to a 4.2 ltr. The radiator is definately a 4.2 ltr so I will need a new of that as well. I will of course verify this when I collect the engine which is placed elswhere but if it is true I need some advise.
I am going to overhaul the engine anyway which is expensive to do in Norway where I am. However, I am frequently in UK so anyone that may take it in exchange for a overhauled 3.8 ltr?
Is it just as good to buy a new block and parts from UK, refurbish the top which should be quite straightforward and put it all together here?
Alternatively, I have wondered to do as little as possible with it, put it into the car and take a vacation in UK....?
So what do you think I should do?
