Hopefully one of you mines of information will be able to help.

My local Motor Factor lists batteries by type number (I imagine everybody does now) - I've just bought an 038 to fit something else. I was OK there as the old battery had the nuber on it.

Does anybody happen to know the appropriate code for a standard Series 1 4.2 battery? The one I have fitted is smaller and I'd like to fit the standard size so that I can use the nice new clamps, tray and rubbers that I bought about 3 years ago. Yes I know - but if things are working I tend to leave them alone.

I could just head down to the Motor Factors and try a few but my back is only just starting to recover from the last time I put it out and bending over to remove the distributor at the weekend didn't do it any favours.

I've got a Group 25 in my '66 FHC that fills the battery box pretty well. Battery size isn't all that important, but ensuring that the positive terminal is not adjacent to the mudguard is.

Type 067 is ( I think ) the standard UK battery, but you may have to alter the layout of your earthing strap, as I have found this layout tends to vary from car to car - certainly my S1 4.2 and my S2 were different
