#1 Dashboard gauges - Seals?

Post by osgii » Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:49 pm

Guys,

I have a question for you. I'm actually working on the dashboard, and i'm ready for refitting the 5 gauges on the main frame (which is made of hard wood + vinyl). The question is:

Do I have to use seals somewhere? Because it looks like the black metal ring that goes on each gauge (fixing the glass to the main unit) seems like it have been sealed a long time ago. Also, there is a rubber ring between the black metal ring (once fixed to the gauge), and the main wooden frame. So, do I have to clean and add silicon sealant to the black metal ring when fixing it back on the unit? And do I have to replace the rubber ring when fixing back the gauge to the wooden frame?

P.s. I want to avoid the white layer which appear on the back of the glass with age.

Wooden dashboard? Are we discussing a Morgan?

There are rubber gaskets between the glass and bezels. There is also a square section rubber ring between the instrument and dash.

True David, it's not only made of wood. A metal sheet support the thick piece of wood, and then you have the vinyl glued on it.

Thank's a lot for having replied. Now I have to find where I can obtain the seals.

Here are some pictures to illustrate my point.
