Today, as a newbie, I have the urge to write.

I have tried to define the color of my car looking at XKE data sample pictures, but with no success. It's a really dark blue, black in low lights, but with purple reflections with high lights, as outside with sunshine.

The car was painted some years ago, but I don't know who made this job, so I can't ask him what kind of color was used.

Can someone help me to define my car color ?

Hi,

I think it's always difficult to rely the colour from digital photos on a PC screen as exposures etc can vary for photo to photo as well as screen set up.

Having said that, I've had mine painted in opalescent dark blue (http://etype.chrisvine.com/?cat=20) and your outside photos appear to be much darker. So possibly not ODB.

That does not look like a metallic colour at all to me. The outside sunny photograph suggests to me that it is probably indigo . The genuine opalescent dark blue colour to me has a definite greyish tinge to it

Looks like Dark Blue to me " 4647" , same as mine , its a colour that can play tricks on the eye . Lee's car [ vipergts ] is the same ,if you look at his retoration thread it has plenty of good photo's showing the change in appearance .

Hi Lorenzo,

Have you thought of contacting JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust)? They can issue a certificate including the colour for you and may even tell you over the phone if you talk nicely to them (They answered some questions for me when I rang). Granted the colour may have changed, but lifting the carpets etc. may help to prove if the original colour is the same as the current one.

Lorenzo,

I concur with steve3.8, it looks like dark blue 4647, IIRC indigo had been discontinued by the time the 2+2 was produced, it looks the same as mine.

Hi all,
thank you for your suggestions.

Yes, I think the paint isn't metallic, even if it has this "strange" purple reflections.

Concerning the original color, I have a Classic Car Heritage document sent me by a previous owner, and the document says that the original paint color was cream with black trim..... quite far from today !

Do you think that a good coachbuilder could find the right paint color after having had a look at the car ?
