Hi,
thinking at a new air filter (inox paintcake), I have tried to understand something from the previous posts but with no good results.
Can someone tell me in a "dummy way" the utility to have a performance air filter ?
I saw nice solution from Barrat (SU Quality Pancake chromed Air Filters), it's a good compromise between upgraded performances, price and easy installation ?
Thank you.
Pancake air filter for dummies

There is a very full report here: http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3394 But if you want the 'air filters for dummies' instructions then:
Personally, after all my experimentation, I would recommend going with one of two options:
1. If you have a LHD drive car buy three K&N filters from here: http://tinyurl.com/bn8wg57

They will only work properly if you fit three BCCP stub stacks inside them to control air flow. If you don't use them you will deteriorate the cars performance. Buy from here: http://www.bccp.nl/shop2/contents/nl/p309.html

Total cost for filters + stub stacks is about ?650
2. A cheaper (and almost as effective) way is to use a ITG Maxogen JC60/99 filter (?60 + VAT) fitted to the plenum: http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p180/ ... _info.html

You also need to buy the ITG filter dust retention oil (?7) to treat the filter before using it.
With either option you must replace the standard UM SU needles with UE versions otherwise the increased air flow will make the car run lean. Option 1 is the hooligan choice as it gives slightly more power but with increased under bonnet noise - lots of induction roar! Option 2 is almost as good and considerably quieter.
Bear in mind John Mangoletsi is working with ITG to produce a new air filter system but it could take some time to get to market.
