Can anyone recommend a modern day Automatic Transmission Fluid for a series 3 V12 Auto. The book gives a number of 70's manufactured fluids but I was wondering what equivalent is the right one today. I understand that there are certain types that you shouldn't use Dexron for example.
Thanks. Mike.

Hi Steve,

No I didn't get an answer, but spoke to my local motor factors and they advised using Comma AQF Automatic Transmission Fluid which meets Ford ESP-M2C-33F/G requirements. I use it in the auto box and the power steering.

Hope this is of help.

If you walk into any car parts place and ask for generic auto trans fluid, what they give you will do fine - which is probably why nobody answered.

Dexron III or VI spec is universally available in every lubricant shop in multiple brands and is the same as power steering fluid. The only people who need to look hard and pay big for this fluid are the ones with fancy modern transmissions who need exotic synthetic stuff. The rest of the world gets by with Dexron III grade, which is about as standard as distilled water or air for the tyres and works fine in carb dashpots too, since it is 20W.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

All I need to do now is work out why the auto box is leaking. It still shows up as full on the dipstick though.

It leaks because its a jaguar!!!!!!!!

On a serious note if the box is not loosing fluid are you sure its not the power steering system?

D coupe - good point. I'll try to work out which it is. The drip seems to be near the front bulkhead, but I hadn't ought about the power steering.

Where are the safest jacking points if you are using a trolley jack?
