Hi there,

In August last year I asked for some info concerning an electric window conversion for my E-type SIII,1972 FHC. Thanks to you, I now have a functioning Falcon kit installed. Due to some initial stiffness, the right hand
window is somewhat slow to go down. This just as an intro to my next little problem.

My windshield wipers ceased to function typically when I drove in the rain.
I heard a "scraping" noise and realised that the motor might have come to its end. From then on I made it wipe only once at a time in order to see out. I managed to drive like this for a few kilometers and the mechanism died out. Typically the wipers stopped in an upright position which even worsened the visibility.

So to my next question. How easy is it to repair such an old motor, and is it worthwhile. Who markets a suitable kit for the SIII, and if so, is it chinese or european, and is it reliable?

Dear Toivo,

It is the same motor as the fan motors, so any replacement parts (like brushes) will mostly be the same.

(Regarding your windows, if you look along the door, you may find that the top line of the right hand door is kinked now inwards if it has been repaired at some time in the past. I also have power windows fitted and my left hand window moves slightly slower than the right for this reason. There are pictures on the jag-lovers.org website.)

It is definitely worth investigating as the motor is easily accessible within the engine bay, and the motor can simply be opened up with 2 screws...once opened you can see if the brushes are worn...if so, assuming replacements can be obtained, then it is a straight forward matter to pull out the central spindle to gain better access to the brushes

I have completely refurbished mine with new wires and bench tested it, it's simple stuff

Give it a go anyway...nothing to loose for sure... :D
