Cantrail fitting

Hi, I'm trying to find out how the Cantrail is fixed on my 2 plus 2. It seems as though it uses self tap screws through the seal retainer on the quarter light.

Is this correct and if so what size / type of screws are used?

they go under the seal and through the retainer. No 4 panheads just be careful on the length.

I just had to replace some of my screws because the lower cant rail got pulled off the screws after a burly MoT mechanic sat in the car.
The original No. 4's had become too small in the fixing holes.
I replaced them with No. 6 x 3/4".

Ok, I have the Cantrail fitted and am now struggling with the rubber quarter light seal. Does any body gave a great idea how to squeeze this in. I'm currently trying with a little water based lubricant and a spatula from the kitchen.
I could really do with a close up of a fitted seal to make sure I have this the correct way round.

All help appreciated

fitting the rubber is just time consuming. Personally I pushed the lower edge into the metal retainer and then eased the top edge into the trim with a very blunt / rounded screwdriver. I just inched my way round but yes it takes ages.

We used to use P-80 temporary rubber lubricate to fit the grips on motorbikes.

Tim when looking at the lower edge of the retainer, the lip of the rubber points up.

thanks Angus but I am really unclear on this.

if I fit so that the lip of the rubber points inward towards the centre of the window is that correct ? or is it so that the lip points towards the bodywork.

I hope im not too confusing?

Tim,
Not much help for you, but I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one who found this a tiresome task. I commented elsewhere on the forum that the base of the original seal was foam filled, which made it more compliant to press into the dovetail. The replacement seals all seem to be solid rubber. Even after a couple of years mine haven't deformed sufficiently to give a rain tight seal.
