I am refitting the doors on my S1 roadster car. I have removed the door seals and am adjusting the door catches. When the door is in the fully latched position I am still able to move the door in and out a small amount on the catch. Is this normal or are the locks worn? Presumablly the new seals will push the door out to the stop but I would think this will still allow some movement.
Another question I have is which way round should the seal on the shut face go (B post) should the sealing flap face toward the front of the car or toward the rear. I have seen cars with them both ways round.

Welcome to the forum. I think you have the doors properly adjusted as the seals should put some outward pressure otherwise they will not work as intended. The doors should close without bouncing back or needing them to be slammed. Not an exact science and it is common to have to trim the door seals with a scissors to get a proper fit/seal. So, yes, there should be a bit of movement without the seals.

As for the direction of the seal lip I seem to recall the seals on the S1 had the lip downwards (bottom seal) and the S2 cars had the lip pointing upwards. The B post should match. No idea why Jaguar changed things so unless you are intending a concourse entry either will work but for an S1 I would go with the flap pointing down/rear.

I had thought the rearward facing seal flaps on the B post looked a neater job so I'll go with this.

Hi David. Had a similar problem with my nearside latch though a lot worse than yours by the sounds of it.Anyway I fitted a new one and now its bang on.Caution though- S C parts sent me an incorrectly packaged one and I did not realise until I had got the old one off!2 weeks to sort out so check before you strip,as they say.
