Can anyone advise whether I should have a PDWA cable.
The car is a Series 3 RHD 2+2 built June 1973. Chassis number is 1S51856BW. All I have is C37468 plug that the cable would fit into. The plug is hiding behind the brake fluid pipe in the photo.

Initially when looking through the parts manual it indicates that it should have one C38298 from IS50886 onwards as shown on (Page 31.51).

When looking at the Harnesses page (Page 32.70) I get the impression that it was only for chassis starting 1S50886 and finished in 1972 on 1S51164.

It goes on to say on the same page PDWA Connector C37023 with no chassis numbers which I cannot get any information on.

Perhaps I am reading it wrong but it seems a little confusing.

So any help to as to whether I need to search for a cable or not would be most welcome.

Colin, Im not an expert but given the fact that you have the PDWA I would think it should be connected. It is a very simple short lead which just connects to the same wire that connects to the brake fluid reservoir located above. I replaced the bonnet looms on my car and this was included. I suggest you call Autosparks who will be able to supply. When actuated the same warning light as the fluid levels and handbrake illuminates.

My problem is that I havent managed to get the PDWA despite following the procedure in the ROM so it is disconnected currently. All the brakes, lines etc are new. Another thing to look at this winter!

Your logic is correct about the PDWA. The car is away being painted so I didn't have sight of the cables only some old photos I had taken some time ago. I saw the car this week and realised that the left hand side brake fluid cable is different to the right hand side cable . The left hand side cable has the extra single wire you mention. I still need to obtain the single connecting bullet wire from that to the PDWA switch but that should be easy and it looks like Autosparks will be able to supply completely new ones anyway.

I dont ever remember this cable or it being connected and so far it hasn't appeared in any of the new bonnet looms I have bought bar the bulkhead loom which is next on the list but I suspect its been disconnected/disabled for the same reason you mention.

In case this helps anybody I have now got all of the leads required from Autosparks as some of the leads are not available through the normal sources and I think Autosparks had to remanufacture.
My car is a RHD Series 3 1973 2+2 (AUTO) but the PDWA valve is on all vehicles :-
IS50886 onwards
IS72568 onwards

The RHS is the normal 2 wire lead that connects from the brake fluid bottle sender to the harness. The LHS being different is a 2 wire with an extra crossover lead to connect to the PDWA valve but you also need the "Patch lead" which is C38298 on page 31.51 of the 2+2 parts manual but this does not include the plug at the end of the lead which luckily I have but haven't seen this part available anywhere, however you could just connect the lead straight to the switch C37468 with the connector supplied. Paul at Autosparks supplied all 3 leads.
I cannot currently test the PDWA valve is operating correctly but will when the car is back on the road.
