Do we have a view on the reopus replacement for the original Lucas OPUS AB3 ignition fitted to early V12 Jaguar engines?

There is / was some pub talk that the Opus system was unreliable, but my '72 still has the original fitted, and it works just fine. 35 years for an ignition system sounds like the definition of being bullet-proof to me!

If this is the system S&G Barrett sell I have had it on the car for over a year with no problems or benefits that I can see, if buying you need to ask for the convesion cable to install on front end rather than in the V which is what I have, although I here its not as heat sensitive as Opus was. Alfi.

I have the uprated remotely located OPUS system which has been on my car for over 10 years, no issues yet. I recently opened it up and had it looked at by an electronics expert at work who instantly recognised one component as being the one which will degrade with time and reduce the performance of the unit. There is one capacitor which has a liquid inside which slowly boils away with use. The heat rating on the capacitor was 120 centrigrade which tells a story!! I replaced it from a company called Farnell http://uk.farnell.com/rubycon/50rx3010m ... stid=32830. They only cost 0.42p, but they do have a min order charge. I noticed an improvement after fitting. Make sure that you get the polarity of the capacitor the right way round. The REOPUS i'm sure is an improvement over the original after all it is built with modern stable components.
