Here's an interesting one for people who are thinking of re-enamelling their manifolds. I have had a very interesting conversation with someone today who baulked at the price of about ?250 for the pair and instead painted them with shiny BBQ high temperature paint. He has assured me that it works and has done for a few thousand miles so far with no degradation at all and looks right into the bargain. I'll find out more anon.

What he said.

The paint looks OK and when it doesn't you just spray some more on.

I don't know if it's available in the UK, but on this side of the Pond, VHT (Very High Temperature) sells a spray paint specifically designed for exhaust manifolds. It runs about ten bucks per can which will do several E Type exhaust manifolds. I have about 1800 miles on mine since I applied it and it still looks good with a dull gloss (not like newly porcelained).
