#1 Cant Rail Removal

I really need to replace the roof lining on the car at some point. The panel that the sunvisors affix to removes easily enough but how are the side cant rails removed?
It'll be made more problematic by the very tight fitting roll cage :-(

Remove rear windows, Remove rubber sealings (outer), detect rusty screws in rubber Container Rail, Remove them, cantrail becomes free.
Horrid.... Somehow.

How are the rear windows affixed? I'm assuming the complete unit needs to be removed inc frames etc?

One thing after a bit of reading that puzzles me. OK, i've worked out how the cant rails are removed and the panel that the sun visors affix to is easily removed but how do you remove the trimmed panel that runs around the outer edge of the roof panel? including the rear section that houses the interior light?
I assume that this is all removed to facilitate correct retrimming?

This is going to be hard to explain but....
The roof lining comprises 4 pieces. The trimmed panel at the front, the main roof panel and two long 'curtains'.
The curtains have a rubber tube sewn into their length an this is fed in via the (removed) rear light and pulled to the front. The tube is hidden inside the car as you pull it through.
The two curtains are then joined in the middle of the interior light. The back is interesting as there is a toothed gripper panel screwed on either side of the light. The curtains are tucked into them an then tapped flat (you might have to open them up first though). Good idea is to remove these grippers and clean off the rust as this could mark your new roof lining.
It really is not as hard as it sounds!

Yes it's these "curtains" that confuse me. I assumed that the "curtain" panel just unscrewed - obviously not. Has anyone any pictures to try and help visualise this?

So, how does the material affix onto the headliner surround at the top and bottom. Is it simply glued on it's upper and lower ledge and then tucked around the edges (obscured by the cant rail on it's lower edge)?

The upper edge should be hemmed and have a rubber tube inserted in that hem. (I just used all he original tubes which were still in good shape.) That edge then tucks in behind the fixed metal cantrail panel (but
after the main roof lining is installed). That's what I'm doing in image #2.
Then, I glued a strip of soft 1/8" foam to the metal, then pulled down the wool material and glued just the lower edge only to the window frame surround. The other shots show he finished job.
The joint at the rear should be positioned underneath the dome lamp fixture with a folded edge on the outer piece for neatness.
You don't want to apply any glue between the foam and the material in an exposed area- the material just stretches over the foam and the foam gives it all a smooth appearance.
None of this is actually very difficult. It just requires thinking about a bit before you go ahead and do it.
