#1 Replacing lock in ignition switch

Post by Alty Ian » Sat May 02, 2015 6:10 pm

I am replacing the ignition switch lock in my series 1 but it seems that it is only possible by removing the copper rivets that hold the back to the front, is this the only way?

Advice appreciated. :?

Large hammer and grinder Ian? I can't believe you had to ask!

Not very helpful I know, glad you're back on the car and I'm sure someone will come along shortly with a sensible answer.

I know simon, I have been suffering from grinder and lump hammer withdrawal symptoms for some time, working on the wiring and dashboard I can't find a use for them, until today when a spacer was too thick so I got the grinder out

It has been slow painstaking work doing the wiring, instruments and dashboard but now almost completed :D I will post some pics on the restoration page.

This is the lock I am not sure how to replace without destroying the switch ! :?

If I remove the rivets not sure if that is the only way to replace the lock.

All you have to do is insert a small screwdriver into the hole on the side of the casing and press down the plunger. You can then withdraw the lock barrel.
