#1 brake problem

Just rebuilding my e type and the brakes are locking on. As soon as
you crack open the brake pipe at the master cylinder they release.
Both the master and slave cylinder/servo have been re kitted with
new seals. Any body out there worked on this kind of a problem? Oh
and yes there is free-play between pedal and pushrod.

I had exactly the same problem with an Austin Healey, Mike...it was the servo. Even though the servo had just been rebuilt, professionally, one of the seals was sticking. Another rebuild sorted it out.

what braking system do you have on the car? Is it the early bellows type?

Welcome to the Forum. If you have one of the later cars (without the Dunlop master cylinder) then I would suspect the reaction valve (white plastic disc on master cylinder) is faulty. Either overhaul it or replace it although some of the after market spares are famously unreliable in this respect. There is am article (Cherry Ripe) in this months E-Type magazine on the very same subject
