Does anybody have any experience with the purchase, installation, and use of the longer stroke crankshafts. I'm about to rebuild an engine for my '68 and would like the (effortless) extra torque that more cubic inches should supply. I note that some of the manufacturers speak about them as being fully counterbalanced and smoother than stock. True?

The torque to weight ratio of a standard 4.2 litre E type is just about higher than any other vehicle of its era, and even today there are very few cars whose top gear performance is better than the E type , even with the 3.07 ratio used in UK and Europe. Accordingly , looking for more torque is very largely the victim of the law of diminishing returns , and a waste of time and money. Money spent on balancing a standard crank, rods, pistons and flywheel is, however, money well spent and usually produces a notably smoother engine even though the original was quite well balanced
