Hi all,

I am preparing to fit a new boot floor in my FHC. I have a complete floor section as supplied from Martin Robey. When I say complete, it includes the the two upward swept parts that are at either side of the number plate housing. The inner rearward quarters ( either side of the boot floor are present and not being removed).

What I need to know is, can the whole boot floor panel be fitted correctly as is, or will I need to cut off the two upward swept sections and then weld them back on afterwards. I ask as I can't see how it would be fitted being left as a whole panel AND with the two side inner quarters still present. There doesn't seem to be any way for it to slide into place with those end bits on.

Hope that makes sense??

Hi Simon,

I think you?re going to struggle unless you remove one of the lower quarter panels, to fit it with the filler panels attached. In fact I think it will be impossible.
The sides sit inside the boot and at the front and back it is outside.
There simply is not enough room unless it is bent and twisted. It is difficult to get it in even with the filler panels removed, but it is possible.
If you don?t want to remove the filler panels, you will have to remove a quarter panel.

I fitted a Robey boot floor to my '62 some time ago but the two pieces each side of the number plate panel came separately and I welded them in afterwards.

In my case, the quarter panels were still good but I had to replace the tonneau panel and the number plate panel. On the whole, it wasn't too difficult other than getting Robey's tonneau panel to fit the body.

There were some major bodywork changes made to the rear end of the Coupes in early '62 and my car was built before that so this might be the reason for the ill fitting tonneau. (One way to tell is from the gas filler box lid. Early lids are rectangular but after the changes they became trapezoidal.)

Thanks for the feedback. It is what I suspected - I am going to remove the rear side filler panels and then weld them back on afterwards.

I didn't want to start cutting until I knew there was no cunning method of fitting as is.

When it is all welded in, I will post some before and after pictures.
