#1 clutch release bearing removal

Hi can anybody tell me if it is possible to change clutch release bearing without removing engine ie can gearbox be moved enough I have a series 2 2+2 engine has only just been fully rebuilt and it looks like ancient master cylinder has sent crap down to the slave n stopped said bearing releasing properly bit fed up

To my knowledge, nobody has ever been able to move the gearbox aft sufficiently to gain access to the release bearing, or remove the gearbox without removing the engine as well. All of my experience is with SWB cars, so maybe some other 2+2 owners can jump in on this discussion.

From what you describe, I think the real problem lies with your master and/or slave cylinder. The release bearing either has its graphite intact, or it does not. I'd try rebuilding the master and slave before taking anything else apart. This doesn't sound like a big problem.

Can you put a borescope camera in there to assess the condition of the bearing?
