I've got to replace the aluminium washers on the banjo as they are leaking quite badly. Can only find fibre ones to replace them from the specialists. Is this ok or does anyone know where I can get them? Tried my local garages and car part specialists with no joy. Advice appreciated.

If you don't get any joy with Barratts, give Burlen Fuels a call http://burlen.co.uk/. They have both aluminium and fibre banjo washers.

Although I had leaks using the aluminium washers and swapped to fibre washers, which cured the problem. I suspect they are more easily compressed and so get a better seal if the mating surfaces are suspect.

Banjos are used a lot in diesel engines so if you go to a diesel injection specialist you should be able to get what you need - I did recently and they had everything related to banjos.

Thanks for the replies. I've got done fibre ones I will put on for my trip to classic Le Mans then sort out Ali ones when I get back as would like to keep it original if possible. Thanks for tips on where to get them

You may find that you need to regularly retighten the banjos until the new fibre washers settle down to stop them leaking. I certainly did

Hello All, I thought I would revive this thread rather than starting a new one. I am just refitting the fuel pump after refurbishing it and need help with the banjo washers. When disassembled there were 2 copper washers and one aluminium washer per banjo but I am not sure of the order. The parts catalogue only shows 2 washers; one either side of the banjo.
Are the aluminium / copper / fibre washers all interchangeable; ie. Doing the same job? If so I have one too many per banjo.
My refurb kit from Buren came with 2 fibre washers and 2 o rings; if using these I assume the washer would be under the bolt head and the o ring between banjo and pump?
The banjos have a counterbore recess on one side; should this face the pump or the bolt?
I apologise for all the questions but it wasn't easy to record everything during disassembly due to the nature of the task.

Some people fit Dowty washers eg: http://www.ashtonseals.com/bonded-seals.asp as the combination of rubber and metal gives a very good seal to imperfect faces. Make sure they are the correct ones for the fluid.

I used alu one for the fuel pump and tank and they seal perfect. SNG has them. Never smelled anything fuell inside. For the banjos at the carbs you need fibre ones, which as mentioned before, need some extra service after installing to settle them (as mentioned before). But you can use them again with no problem. Alu or copper ones cannot be used again. Copper ones can be softened again though as I believe.

I think this is how it is in the manual.

I used fibre washers for both sides of the banjos on both the inlet and outlet of the pump and both seem to be leak free and there are no petrol fumes in the car now. I still don't understand the reason for ally v. copper and which way round the banjo should face?
