#1 Rear brake callipers - Series 2

Post by RogerM » Thu Jul 24, 2014 3:56 pm

I have the IRS out of the car sitting on a trolley especially made for the purpose.
Can anyone please advise me on the easiest way to remove the callipers so that they can be overhauled?
I think that the callipers (should be calipers but spell checker keeps changing it !!) are the type fitted to the Adaptor Plate C22817 and 8. Neither the Haynes Manual nor Jaguar Heritage Service disk are much help.
Many thanks

#3 Calipers out but.... Nylov nuts!

Post by RogerM » Fri Jul 25, 2014 11:54 am

Steve,
Many thanks for your info - I'd forgotten about the knowledge base section. The Tech Info Maintenance is the same as my Jaguar Heritage Info, what worried me was the info provided "allow the hub carrier to move outwards - support the carrier in this position. The calliper can now be removed from the aperture at the front of the crossmember."
My car is fitted with the calliper adaptor plate, spare parts listing shows the chassis numbers affected, and it is held to the diff by THREE bolts accessible through the hole in the disc.
A matter of concern was the fact that the drive shaft was held to the output shaft by Nyloc nuts that had somewhat melted and were no more than finger tight. Fortunately the bolts are not damaged.
A much easier job than I was anticipating. :P
