Does anyone sell these ?



And what range of models would it fit ?

Mine was getting nasty on the ends, Yvan-the-stainless knocked this up for me, the drop strips are tigged to the back so it's not a copy of the original.



Would he find any takers if I told him to make 10, then sell them via Ebay, and what would anyone expect to pay ? Cheaper if we forget the polishing.

And Hutsons get them from a chap in Preston who has them on e bay sometimes. They are the same price either way.

I'd be interested, I'd be looking to pay c. ?22, that's the cost of a similar item for a Triumph Stag.

I used to make them and sell them for ?15 without the brackets, the brackets were a pain and took too much time so I dropped them.

Not touting for business either because I can't be bothered with them anymore.

I used to sell plenty of them at Stoneleigh or occasionally on ebay.

At ?22 it wouldn't be worth doing. Aren't all Jag spares twice the price of 'normal' cars ?! What do they retail at from Hutsons / Ebay chap ? Yvan would do them with the brackets since his tube might not be close enough to the imperial size for the originals to clamp nicely.

You can still buy 1/2" and 5/8" nominal bore tube easily enough.

The Triumph part is a cheaper item partly because it does'nt have the swaged ends , so it could lead to a roadside embarrassment when the hose blows off and if it's from Lincoln it probably wont fit !. If i remember right the E Type ones DaveK made had machined grooves in the thick walled pipe to help the hose grip . On a similar note earlier this year whilst fitting a new radiator , Fossway fan and a Cambridge Motorsports header tank i tried to buy a C25074 bottom radiator pipe for a 4.2 in Stainless Steel and nobody made or stocked them , so i had some made , i have 2 left if anyone wants one , ?40 +postage .

You are correct that the Stag heater pipe doesn't have swaged ends. However, the Stag Radiator Pipe does have swaged ends and is only ?15.25 + VAT from Paddocks. I'm all for people making a profit, it seems some want a little too much, just because the car might be valuable it doesn't make the cost of fabrication any different (as long as you don't tell the fabricator what it's for!)

Yes Dave, but we're in Metric-Land, and Montpellier is in an industrial desert where the only things that get manufactured are students, doctors, and tax-returns. Somebody has to do it.

We all like a bargain and prices will vary with any product from different suppliers , but it's important to compare like for like so as not to under estimate , consider the material cost , manufacturing time and machinery value . The Stag radiator Pipe is of a smaller diameter than the E Type and is a simple single bend , unlike the 4.2 E type which is 2 bends at 2 different angles in 2 different directions , The old pipe i used for copying is an original Jaguar part .
Maybe Jaguar parts suppliers do put a bigger mark up on spares than lesser value makes ? maybe that's why sngb stopped selling Stag spares 20 years ago ?, but if you ask an engineer to make a double bend rad pipe for ?15 on his ?40k bending machine he might not give a polite answer .

I'm pleased to see that this has brought up wider issues, here's one I made earlier .............

When fitting new rad hoses recently I replaced the steel bend for a new one from SNGB sold as C16999 together with the elbow-to-pump hose C12630 and elbow-to-radiator hose C15099.

So far so good.



However, the steel bend is actually way too long on both sides of the 90? bend and protrudes way too far into the hoses - it ends up touching (on my car) the radiator stub at the front end, and I had to take an inch off the front end of the pump-to-elbow hose before it looked even half-right.



Furthermore the ends of both the hoses that take the steel elbow are actually a good 1/8" bigger diameter than they need to be (they're a sloppy fit) and so when you tighten up the hose clamps (more than you ought to need to) you end up with a yawning gap (well, bit of an exaggeration OK) between the hose and the elbow - you can see this on the third picture, below.



It fits, it doesn't leak, it'll last just as long as correctly-fitting parts, but it's naff.

Being a simple one-plane-only bend I could just get this knocked up in stainless at a suitable diameter, with correct lengths, and solve the problem - which is only a question of aesthetics, BUT which are of course vital for a Jag-owner's well-being - but am I missing something here ?

Anyone else had this problem - is it a manufacturing error, with the customary 'nobody has ever complained about this before', or something else ?

Not sure about the 3.8 but the original 4.2 pipe i have protruded into the hose futher than you would expect , stopping only 3/4" or so short of the water pump and rad , you do have to trim most the hose lengths down though . I got my hoses from Robeys , they are a perfect snug fit and decent quality . The Fossway silicone hoses look to be the best quality on offer at the moment .
