#1 Series 3 Torsion Bars

Post by e-bygum » Thu Jan 24, 2008 5:35 pm

I am soon to refit the front suspension to my '71 S3. The ROM says to use the special tool (JD43 Front Suspension Setting Links) to tension the bars from the rear splines. I do not have this special tool nor have I been able to track one down.
Has anyone replaced their torsion bars without useing this tool (and acheived the correct ride height)?
If so will they share the secret?
Alteratively does anyone know where I can lay my hands on said tool?

Hi the only real succesfull way to set the correct tension on the torsion bars is with the official tool. It can be done by trial fitment of the bars and moving them spline by spline until they get the correct tension but this could take you hours. The tool was available from Jaguar about ten years ago but not anymore. I do have the tool and could do the job for you if required. Call or email me if i can help.
