Chaps,
Having some difficulty getting a new radiator stone guard?! Had two supplied so far - both measuring 58cm wide. Mine is 54.5cm or 21 1/2 inch. Any ideas as to what will fit/what my car is fitted with?

I measured two in the middle, one new at 22 1/2 and one old factory at 22 3/4 inches. This is across from side mounting flange to side mounting flange outside to outside. The difference in my two may be due to previous accident damage causing the ducts that the screen attach to be bowed out a bit.
When sighting down the mounting edge of the right angle bent sheet metal they are rather uneven. I went back and measured the right angle fold edge of the side rather than the edge farthest from the plane where the screen attaches to the sheet metal sides. This bent seam is much straighter and give more consistent measurements. New 22 3/8 and the old 22 1/2 inches.

Jason,
Try pm ing "Mace" Mark Mason, I know he had a similar problem recently with his and may even have had to alter his slightly.

Yes, your's is the same as what's been supplied (twice) by Robeys - approx 58cm. My car is a Series 2 and the original stoneguard is all intact but definitely 54.5cm (21 1/2 inch) - and looks not to have been altered
Lot's of head scratching at the moment

I just re-fitted mine on a series 1 4.2 and it is original 22 3/4 inches wide and fits snugly. The airducts either side have a recess or scooped out bit where it goes. Do yours have this? If not that might be part of your problem unless the s2's are different, which they might be.

I have a couple of st.st ones in my garage, I made them from a pattern of my original 1961 one.
I'll measure mine and let you know. I know without measuring they are tapered slightly.

Just measured the stone guard on my 1969 series 2. It is 54.5cms (21.5ins), fits perfectly, and there are no recesses on the air tube to allow for it.

Hardly surprising given they have different part numbers!
S1 = BD20093 and BD18710 (frame)
S2 = BD31984 and BD31976 (frame)

Thats interesting, in your picture you can actually see the recess, on the S1 the stonegaurd is further back in the recess, maybe on the S2's they moved it further forward and as the airducts taper then the guard would have to be narrower. On the S1 the guard is behind the flanges whereas on your they are just above the end of them. When fitted, how much space is there between your rad and the guard? Has it been moved forward to allow an oil cooler or something?

Problem resolved guys. It would appear that Robeys had some "mis-labelled" stone guards :? Another MRE55B was despatched - and perfect fit. Thanks for everyones input and advise as always. I'll now update in the restoration section - as there is more to tell :D

Thats good. The airducts look the same as the S1, indeed in the recess you can also see the 3 screw holes where the guard used to go on S1's so all Jaguar did was moved the guard further forward and made a narrower one.
