All sources say that the 4.2 liter should use a 133 toothed flywheel. Part number C18517

I am in need of a flywheel and have found one locally here in Norway with 132 teeth. I've counted them several times. Apparently it's from a XK 120 / 140 or Mk 7.

Simple question : will the 132 toothed flywheel work on the 4.2 liter E-type ?

Or is there a difference in overall diameter, hence difference in the radial placement of the starter motor pinion. Hence "clash" in use.

Next question : I know of a XJ6 2.8 liter which can sell it's flywheel, does anyone know how many teeth that has (I fear it has 104, which of course doesn't help me)

No no NO ! The older flywheel will not work . The 1 tooth difference is crucial with a pre- engaged starter motor, and in any case I think the earlier flywheels are about 3 to 5 mm smaller than the 4.2 type - and yes you are right - the 2.8 flywheel is 104 teeth

Thanks for the clarification. I will continue my hunt for the 133 toothed version in Norway. Maybe I end up with a lightened version and hold-luggage on a cheap Ryan Air flight :D

With Ryanair it might be cheaper to buy the flywheel a seat and check yourself in as baggage :-)
