Hi guys I'm new to this forum and needed some advice.
I am restoring my first E-Type Series 1.5 2+2, with a 4.2 litre engine.
It has a 4-speed gearbox but keeps popping out of gear 2 & 4 which are the 2 gears in the down position.
I have just got the car on the road and have realised this on the test drive.
It goes into 2 & 4 gear fine but when I take my foot off the peddle it pops out.
Has anyone had this problem before or can any give me some advice?

It may be as simple as the boot on the gearshift being a bit too bulky and pushing it back up.

Yes, I had this problem, albeit on a saloon with the 4 synchro box, and it was indeed the rubber gaiter which was causing the problem

Jumping out of gear is often caused by excessive wear in the shift linkages, but as the others have suggested I would first check that the rubber gaither isn't pushing it out of gear. Out of curiosity, how many miles are on the gearbox?

Thanks guys for all your help. Me and my dad took out the centre console and drove the car and it was fine. I believe it was the rubber gater!
