After I received the (new) 9.5" Dia clutch, I found that SNG had sent me the Wrong bolts.

They are 5/16, So the thread does fit, but They came shouldered.

Now, Looking closely at the parts book, I found that there are "Balance pieces" which seem to be fitted with these bolts.

Should I get bolts which are FULLY threaded, or a set of Balance pieces ?

(SNG even sent me another set of the THICKER bolts, saying "these MUST work" - err, nope.

Get the right bolts or reuse your old ones.

From memory (it's a few weeks since I was at my clutch & flywheel, getting them balanced) it uses fully threaded bolts (e.g. set screw). Given you have received non-fully-threaded bolts you could choose to run a die up the thread to make it fully threaded, or to purchase replacements that are set screws.

I guess it's your tool kit that ends up making the choice for you.

Remember it's the two dowel pins that transfer the torque of the clutch cover to the flywheel, whilst the set screws hold it clamped in position. Sure, the friction of the land around the set screws will also transfer torque.

.. True, I don?t have a 5/16 thread cutter.

I cannot reuse the old ones, because I come from the 10" Version (thick bolts), and went to the 9.5" version (thin bolts).

So, I need SNG to get me the correct ones.
