#1 OTS Wheelarch trimming

Post by chrisvine » Tue Jan 20, 2015 9:09 pm

I'm just starting out with the internal trimming and everything appears self-explanatory apart from the trimming of the vinyl, especially the rear wheel arches.

The supplied foam and vinyl seem to be much larger than required, even allowing for car to car discrepancies. The supplied vinyl is also almost 1cm wider than the foam all around:

My understanding was that the vinyl should cover the area outlined in red (possibly extending further rearward to the top):

Yet the foam is much larger than the area to cover:

I had assumed the foam would be cut approx. 1cm short of the red outline to enable the vinyl to be bonded to the remaining 1cm and then continuing for the same amount around the perimeter, which would be covered by vinyl covered metal panels and the hardura.

Should the foam be trimmed so it is within the highlighted area or should it be glued to the bodywork beyond the perimeter? Any advice would be very welcome.

Chris,
I dont recall having any foam under the vinyl here, but rather a thicker and softer vinyl which is moldable around the wheelarch. From whom did you get your trim kit?

The trim was supplied by Suffolk & Turley a year or so ago. I think these areas (sill, wheel arches and lower rear bulkhead) might have been trimmed with Moquette in either earlier or later cars.

I'm lead to believe that for the S2, foam and vinyl is correct.
