Fitting the new shocks and springs to the IRS and I find that the sleeve that goes through the top hole in the shocks is shorter than the width of the top hole. This would mean that when tightened up the shock would not be free on the sleeve but be held tight by the bolt and any rotation of the shock about the top bracket is taken by the rubber.
Is this correct? Is it merely a sleeve rather than a bushing?
Thanks
Geoff

The torsion is supposed to be taken by the rubber bushing - that's why it's there. The steel centre is supposed to be gripped tight and originally there would have been no sleeve, just a correct size bush and bolt. You have aftermarket parts by the sound of it, adapted to 'fit' different applications by sleeving.

Thanks Peter for the prompt response.
Looking at how they fit onto the wishbone they are again compressed on the rubber bushing, not free to pivot. Kind of answered my own question by getting to that part of the assembly.
But it is gratifying to have someone explain how they should work rather than assume.
BTW, the shocks are Boge, and like the old ones have the same size eye at both ends, and the top eye would have needed some sort of bush (p. no. 8689) as the bolts are thinner than the lower mounting shaft to fit the holes in the IRS frame.
Cheers
Geoff
