#1 Clutch pedal return spring

Post by Gfhug » Tue Mar 24, 2015 9:40 am

Replacing my leaking clutch master cylinder and I've found the pedal return spring is broken.
To remove the brake/clutch pedal box the service manual instructions are 'dismantle the car' judging by everything that has to be taken off to get the box out.
Can anyone suggest an easier way of replacing the spring without taking the box out? Can the shaft be undone and slid out enough to change the spring with the box in situ?

The clutch pedal position seemed fine just with cylinder pressure to return it to normal. So might leave like that if there's no easier way to replace the spring.

Thanks
Geoff

Hi Geoff......have read on the jag lovers forum that these springs are very prone to breaking, and it seams that quite a few have fitted a spring to the pedel under the footwell to pull the pedel up ....Steve

Steve, thanks for that idea, much easier than the book solution.
