Dash top removal ? how many bolts/fixings?
#1 Dash top removal ? how many bolts/fixings?
Can anyone tell me how many bolts/fixings must be undone before I can remove the dashtop on my S1 in order to retrim it?
If any are tricky to access, tips on how to get at them would also be welcome.
Thanks

There are two small nuts at the top of the drop down flap area, and one at either end . To gain access to these, you have to remove the triangular plates and the chromium finishers at each end, that on the passenger side being near the grab handle

#3 What else has to come out before the dash top can be removed
Decided to pop the dash top out tonight but the screen vents are preventing removal. Can anyone list the other items that have to come out first and offer any tips on how?

The vents are taped to the corrugated air hoses.

I found removing the steering wheel helped because its a tricky maneuver with a FHC and no doubt you've already seen the central instrument/under dash board light bulb wires (2).

#6 Already detached the vents and wires
Thanks for the replies. My problem seems to be that I can't withdraw the dash top horizontally because the vents prevent it, and I can't lift the dash vertically enough for the vents to be free because the windscreen is in the way. I'm reluctant to force anything because the vents appear to be made of glass fibre. Could this be another of those E-type jobs that starts with removing the air filter canister and/or the rear axle before the true job can begin?

Hi Phil,
Having had the dashtop in & out of my OTS half a dozen times over the last week, once the hoses are freed from the vents the dashtop should just pull/twist away. One of the centre vents got a little caught but was simple to ease free.

The later vents were plastic so you can manipulate them more. The fibreglass ones are fragile so you have to take a lot of care.

I second the fragile comment - i broke mine removing the dash top, but as people have mentioned the vent tubes are merely taped on they will pull free but it is a wriggle, or you can remove them from underneath the dash fairly easily... thats how i refit them...
