The 'E' Type Forum

I was able to locate a new nylon spring and a rivet and have that part of the assembly back together. However, when I loosened the two slotted screws that hold the plastic electrical connector to the aluminum bracket and then started to separate the two pieces a small bright copper colored spring popped out. I have all of the remaining springs in their proper places, but I don't know where the spring that popped out goes and I don't understand what function it serves. Can anyone help?

Hi Lin,

If memory serves I think it may sit on the spigot that locates the copper disc, above the spring shown on the right in your photograph. This is compressed when the headlights are flashed.

I would take my indicator switch apart again to check, but there's a danger a spring may fly out!

I think Jim is right; is there a corresponding hole in the plastic?

The Mk2 indicator switch is slightly different from the E-Type.

I have recently done the same thing on my E Type indicator switch, but unfortunately can't remember where the springs go.

I have however a very out of focus picture of the spring sitting on top of the copper disk, which sort of confirms its position.

Perfect. I do recall that there is small "post" in the center of the disc on which the spring would sit. I will take it apart tomorrow and give it a try. Thank you Jim and Paul!

I am pleased to report that my turn indicator is back together and seems to be functioning properly. I won't know for sure until I have the car back together, but thanks to Jim and Paul I believe I now have all of the components in the proper place.
